Halloweenies {Crescent Mummy Dogs}

I love a themed meal (and sometimes go a tad overboard) and Halloween provides so many fun, creative ideas! So this month I will be bringing you main dishes, desserts, snacks and even a fun beverage for all your Halloween party needs! And first up is a family favorite, Halloweenies! Clever, I know.

I made these for the first time last Halloween and they were a huge hit. I mean, who wouldn’t love a mummified pig-in-a-blanket? Last year I made them using little smokies to serve as appetizers since we were having a party and had lots of other food to indulge in but this year I decided to go with hot dogs so we could make a meal out of them.

These are so fun to make and enjoy with your kids. Noah is still too little to help in the kitchen but we will definitely be making these together next year. We’ll see how mummy-like his end up, but they will be delicious all the same. And I don’t really think you can mess them up since mummies look pretty disheveled from the start.

Do you have any Halloween meal traditions? Share them in the comments section below. And stay tuned for more spooky eats and treats.

UPDATE: these are now a requirement at every Halloween dinner before taking the kids out to trick or treat. Both of my kids love helping to create them and get pretty creative in their wrapping. If you make them mini, whip up a simple pot of chili to dip them in, so good. Oh, and they must be served alongside Spider Eggs. Duh.

Ingredients

  • 1 8 oz. can crescent rolls
  • 10 large hot dogs
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Mustard or ketchup, if desired

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Unroll crescent rolls and press firmly at the perforations to make one big sheet of dough. Cut into 4 rectangles then cut each rectangle into thin strips.
  • Wrap each hot dog with strips of crescent dough, leaving a little gap towards the top fourth of the hot dog for the face. Bake for 13 to 17 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through. Add two dots of mustard or ketchup to the exposed hot dog for the mummy eyes.
