Besides turkey, nothing screams Thanksgiving more than sweet potatoes. I know a lot of you love a classic sweet potato casserole but I have always preferred my sweet potatoes on the savory side.

In comes these Maple Chipotle Sweet Potatoes. They still have some sweetness from the maple syrup but there’s also this great spicy and smoky flavor thanks to the chipotle peppers.

If you want to try a more savory sweet potato recipe for this holiday season, whip up this recipe.

Ingredients for Maple Chipotle Sweet Potatoes

Like all my favorite recipes, the ingredient list is short and simple for this one. Here’s what you are going to need:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Chipotle in adobo sauce: You’ll need the sauce from the chipotles for this recipe. Find these in a can in the hispanic aisle of your grocery store.
  • Maple syrup: Make sure to use pure maple syrup for the best flavor and results.

The Easiest Side

That big, delicious holiday meal is epic to eat but it can be stressful to make. But this sweet potato side dish makes things a little easier.

I love having a handful of super simple dishes to balance out the more time consuming ones. This is one of those recipes.

Between a small amount of ingredients and only about 45 minutes of cook and prep time, this makes a great simple addition to your holiday meal.

How to Make Maple Chipotle Sweet Potatoes

Start by dicing your sweet potatoes into one inch chunks. They don’t have to be perfect but should be around the same size so that they cook evenly.

Add the sweet potatoes to a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. This will make clean up WAY easier.

Drizzle the sweet potatoes with olive oil then season with salt. Toss well to make sure everything is coated well. Now it’s time to roast.

We’re going to cook them about 20 minutes to start. While they are cooking, whisk together the chipotle and maple syrup.

Once that time is up, remove them from the oven and toss them with the maple syrup chipotle mixture. Roast for another 20 minutes, until soft and slightly caramelized.

And that’s it! They are so simple yet totally addictive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these ahead of time? I personally wouldn’t make these ahead of time. They will lose the crisp and caramelization when they are reheated.

How long are these good leftover? Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.

Can I use something besides maple syrup? You could sub in honey for the maple syrup.
