Ingredients for Thai Sweet Chili Broccoli

  • Fresh broccoli: It’s gotta be fresh for me. Could you use frozen broccoli? Yes. Will it be super mushy? Also yes.
  • Vegetable oil: For searing the broccoli.
  • Cornstarch: Thickens the sauce to its glossy, rich finish.
  • Soy sauce: Brings a salty richness to the finished dish.
  • Vegetable broth: To cut the sauce and mellow it out a bit. Also, it makes it “saucier” because the more sauce the better. You could also use chicken broth.
  • Fresh garlic: Bringing the flavor.
  • Thai sweet chili sauce: This is a sweet, spicy sauce that brings its signature flavor to this dish. You can find this in the Asian aisle of grocery stores. You can also grab it on Amazon.
  • Sesame oil: A little bit goes a long way with this super strong oil. It adds so much rich, nutty flavor to the sauce. You can also find this product in the Asian aisle of your grocery store.

How to Make Thai Sweet Chili Broccoli

Start by cutting your broccoli into bite-size florets. Heat a skillet over medium heat and once hot, add the vegetable oil and broccoli.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli starts to brown in spots. This will take about 5 minutes.

Add some water and allow it to steam a bit. This will help make the broccoli tender crisp to the bite.

While the broccoli is cooking, mix up the sauce. Whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch in a bowl. Once well combined, add the remaining ingredients.

Once the broccoli is tender crisp, meaning it still has a bite to it but isn’t super hard like when raw, add the sauce to the pan. Stir to coat the broccoli and cook for a minute or two, until the sauce is thickened and glossy.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
