I know I’ve been sharing a lot of carby, snacky things lately but ’tis the season.
I really wanted to have some non-cookie options this holiday season because let’s face it, we get kind of inundated with all the sweet things and sometimes we’re feeling salty.
Ingredient List
The ingredient list for these seasoned saltine crackers is short, sweet and probably all in your pantry.
You could add in or subtract any of the herbs and spices you like. If you are serving them with a particular dish, you can change things up to coordinate flavors.
And when looking at the amount of oil it will seem like a lot. It really is needed to ensure the crackers get super crispy. You can try reducing the amount but I haven’t tested it with less so I can’t guarantee they will turn out well if you do.
How to Make Seasoned Saltine Crackers
These crackers couldn’t get easier to make. First, whisk together the canola oil with all the spices and herbs.
Set the mixture aside and grab two ziplock bags. Open all your crackers and put two sleeves of crackers into each bag.
Evenly drizzle the oil mixture into each bag then seal, pressing out any excess air. Move around the bag to get all the crackers coated then leave them overnight to soak up all the goodness.
The next morning, preheat your oven. While it’s warming, lay out your crackers in a single layer on rimmed baking sheets. I needed to use two.
It’s important that they are in a single layer to ensure they get super crispy and golden.
My Favorite Ways to Eat Seasoned Saltine Crackers
Let me start off by saying I’ve never been a fan of saltines but things have changed my friends. Turns out when you soak them in oil, spice them up and bake them until golden they are a thing of beauty.
They are quite delicious just served in a bowl on their own for snacking. They would make another great savory addition to your holiday baking.
Package them up and deliver them along with some soup to a sick relative or friend.
Another delicious way to enjoy these crackers is of course soup dunking. They go well with broth based soups, cream based soups, chili and everything in between.
They are also a great addition to a charcuterie board. Who said saltines can’t be fancy?!
