I have been digging Thai food SO much lately. It’s just so dang good. And though it may seem intimidating, you can totally make it at home.
If you stock your pantry with just a few Thai ingredients you can make so many dishes. And I promise you can find those ingredients at any grocery store in the ethnic aisle.
Here’s a breakdown of the ingredients you’ll need to make this Instant Pot Thai Beef:
- Bottom round steak
- Soy sauce
- Fish sauce
- Oyster sauce
- Sesame oil
- Sugar
- Red pepper flakes
- Garlic
- Ginger
The first step involves thinly slicing the bottom round steak then marinating it in a delicious and rich Thai sauce using the remaining ingredients. You can marinate it for 30 minutes or up to overnight. The longer you marinate it, the more flavorful the finished dish will be.
Because the beef cooks in the same sauce it marinades in it will be plenty flavorful so no need to stress over how much marinating time you have. And don’t worry, the sauce gets hot enough for long enough to cook out any harmful bacteria.
Once the beef is cooked, turn the Instant Pot to saute mode and add a cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. It will get glossy and perfectly coat the strips of beef. There’s also enough extra for drizzling over your rice. Because not much is better than saucy rice.
My favorite way to serve this is over a simple coconut turmeric rice that I also made in the Instant Pot. The recipe isn’t on my blog (yet) but I just tweaked my Instant Pot Coconut Lime Rice and I’ll tell you how to do it too. Leave out the lime and add 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric to the rice before cooking. Boom. That’s it.
The slightly sweet flavor pairs so nicely with the super rich, slightly salt Thai Beef. I happily ate this for days (and I DO NOT love leftovers). I think that’s all the proof you need.
