You will be the hit of the party when you arrive with this Red White and Blue Dessert Board. It’s simple and FUN to make with a handful of store-bought ingredients and a little time.

Today’s post isn’t so much a recipe as a how-to be the freaking star of the 4th of July. This is probably my very favorite holiday to create recipes for because it’s my favorite to celebrate.

The barbecues with family and friends in the warm sunshine. The waiting for the sun to go down for all the fireworks. I just love it all.

There’s been red white and blue sangria, patriotic poke cake and homemade creamy lemonade bomb pops but this dessert board may be my favorite 4th of July creation yet.

Isn’t it just the cutest?!

I’ve had the idea to create a festive, patriotic dessert board rolling around in my head for months and I’ve been so excited to create it. And now it’s time to share it with you!

I’m going to share the amounts of everything I used as best I can in the recipe card but you can easily use more or less of a certain treat or candy coating to make it your own. It’s a pretty general instruction going on here.

Let’s talk about how to build this little beauty. First, grab all your favorite sweet and salty treats to dip in candy melts. For me, that included pretzel rods (my personal favorite), Oreos, rice krispy squares, vanilla wafer cookies, strawberries, cherries and blueberries.

Next, gather the cute little touches to decorate and build your board. That includes red and blue candy melts, festive sprinkles, a large board for building and a few little bowls for the fruit.

The bowls help contain the smaller items and add some visual interest and height to your display.

I went with a white platter for my “board” to keep within the theme but you could go with a wooden board, silver or gold platter or whatever you have that’s fun and festive. Just make sure it’s large enough to fit all those delicious treats.

To start, make sure you have all your items ready and unwrapped. Line two or three large baking sheets with parchment paper and set them beside your workspace.

Choose which color candy melts you want to start with and pour half the bag into a tall, microwave safe drinking glass. This makes dipping the pretzel rods super easy and contains the mess. Melt the candy melts in 30 second increments until just melted.

Dip about 8 pretzels halfway and scrape the bottom layer off as you pull it out of the glass. Place the side you scraped on the parchment paper and sprinkle with sprinkles or allow to dry to drizzle with the contrasting color later.

Pour remaining melted candy melts into a small bowl and dip oreos and vanilla wafer cookies halfway, setting on the parchment when you’re done. Decorate them with sprinkles or again, let them dry for some drizzle action.

Repeat the whole process with the second color of candy melts. Once everything is dipped, it’s time to melt the remaining candy melts for drizzling and final touches.

Choose one color again to melt in one of the bowls that you’ve already used for that color. Don’t melt both colors at the same time since the candy melts can harden fast. Once the candy is melted, pour into a ziplock bag and snip a small bit of one of the corners.

Lay out oreos, vanilla wafer cookies and rice krispies and drizzle them to your hearts desire. Drizzle the desire pretzel rods. Repeat the process with your second color.

Keep some just red, some just blue and of course a good amount with both colors. This again adds more visual interest.

Now, let the candy harden. This will only take a few minutes so you can use that time to gather up your board and bowls and wash and dry your fruit.

Once everything is hardened, you can start assembling your board. Start with some blueberries in a small bowl and decide where you want to place that then build around it.

Use your imagination and have fun. Fill in any spaces with a few cherries or strawberries.

It’s a little messy to make but it’s so easy and you can be so creative in how you decorate your treat and arrange them. What’s your favorite candy dipped treat? What’s something different you would add to your board? Let me know in the comments.
