Hey friends! How is May ending already?! The weather has been so weird here in Nebraska that it doesn’t even seem like it should be summer yet. So much cool weather and thunderstorms.
It hasn’t even been warm enough to go to the pool yet. That’s NOT RIGHT. If the kids are done with school we should be going to the pool every day, ok?!
But you’re not here to hear me complain about the weather. Let’s get to all my favorite things from the month of May.
DIY Essential Oil Body Wash
Last month I talked about my interest in making my own body wash and I went ahead and tried it this month. I found a few different “recipes” on Pinterest and settled on one for the base then created my own combination of essential oils for the smell/effect I wanted to achieve.
I made two different varieties starting with this base. Instead of the essential oils listed, I used for the first batch 10 drops of frankincense essential oil, 10 drops of lemon essential oil and 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. This blend is good for anxiety and it smells really nice.
The second batch I decided to go with a fun, tropical combination of orange (or tangerine) essential oil, lime essential oil, cedarwood essential oil and eucalyptus essential oil. I LOVE anything eucalyptus so this one is probably my favorite of the two.
So let’s review the homemade version. Let me start by telling you it does not lather like a store-bought body wash. It lathers a bit but not a crazy amount of bubbles. That was hard to get used to because my mind didn’t feel like I’m getting as clean but I got used to it after a week or so.
The ingredients separate so it’s important that you shake it up before pumping out the body wash.
I love that these are made with good for you ingredients and no weird chemicals. My son and I both have super sensitive, dry skin so I’m always on the hunt for good stuff for our skin. Plus, they smell so good and leave our dry skin feeling super soft.
If you want to make your own, here’s a list of everything you’ll need:
- Castille Soap
- Fractioned Coconut Oil
- Vitamin E Oil or Sweet Almond Oil
- Vegetable Glycerin
- Pump Bottles
- Essential oils of choice
And a quick side note, I am NOT a medical professional. This is just what I’ve researched, tried and liked. Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
Most Popular Recipe
These Citrus Monkey Bread Muffins went crazy this month. And for good reason. They are ridiculously easy to make and are one of my favorite things I’ve created this year. You only need an handful of ingredients for a flavor packed breakfast or brunch.
I’m hoping lots of moms got to enjoy them on Mother’s Day.
My New Favorite Hobby
Um, hello. My name is Meghan and I now love antique malls. I’ve been wanting to go to an antique store forever to find some cool, beat up, previously loved kitchen items that would be great photo props. Specifically, I wanted to find some cool ice cream scoops, utensils and linens.
I finally decided to pop into a local antique mall a few weeks before school ended because we all know kids and antiques DON’T mix. The place was huge and I spent almost two glorious hours perusing all the aisles, nooks and crannies. They had that place jam packed full of stuff and I came home with lots of fun treasures, for only $26. Score.
I grabbed some cool ice cream scoops that I’ve already learned photograph well with ice cream recipes (coming at you in July). I also found a beat up muffin tin and an old flour spoon that are both really visually interesting.
Lastly, not food related but another hobby of mine, I found a really cool old camera that is now beautifully displayed on my fireplace shelf. I’ve always wanted an old camera and this baby was only $4. I’m excited to get back there in a couple of months to discover some new treasures.
Summer Suits
I grabbed a few new swimsuits for summer and I love them so much I had to tell you about them. I so did not want to take my kids swimsuit shopping with me so I bought several on Amazon (making sure I could return them) and tried them on at home.
I ended up keeping this adorable floral suit. It’s super comfortable, supportive and has good coverage. I like that it has some ruching over the stomach to make it a little more flattering. Perfect for swimming with the kids.
I also loved this navy polka dot one but it was a bit too small so I returned it and plan on buying a size up. I love the back and the little bit of mesh that make it different but still leaves me comfortable.
This one was great and comfortable too but I thought the sleeves would probably annoy me after a while and make it a little difficult to keep ahold of my non-swimmer. It went back to Amazon but if you don’t have kids to wrangle it would definitely be a great option.
That’s all I have for Let’s Catch Up: May! I hope you’re enjoying the summer warmth and all the fun that comes along with it. Let me know in the comments what you want to hear about next month or any recipe requests! Happy Friday!
