I don’t know why I used to buy pre-mixed spice rubs. They usually contain way too much sodium and are made of spices I already have on hand. Why not take an extra minute to mix up your own spices and make it exactly to your taste? So these days, that is exactly what I do!
This Mexican Spice Rub is perfect for meats, veggies and more. I usually just double or triple the recipe and store it in an labeled mason jar so I always have it on hand when needed.
This spice blend has a nice depth from the cumin and spice from the chili powder. The oregano brings in more Mexican flavor and the onion, garlic and salt just bring a bit more flavor and balance.
I have a few recipes coming up that use this yummy Mexican spice rub so go ahead and mix it up and wait in anticipation to see what we’re making with it!

- 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 Tbsp. oregano
